| Europe property market - Bulgaria | |

In the unlikely country of Bulgaria, a recent phenomena has been quietly gaining momentum and strength. The former Soviet ally has managed to shake off the shackles of its communist past and is embracing a free market economy in a big way. The transformation is nowhere clearer than at Bulgaria’s ski resort towns. Among the more popular ski resorts is the undeniably beautiful Borovets.
Borovets happens to be Bulgaria’s oldest ski resort with a history dating back to 1896. Although the city itself may have a long past, the resort today is fully modernized and caters to a middle budget traveller looking for good skiing in a friendly atmosphere – all at a great price. The city has had the honour of hosting two Alpine World Cup competitions in the past and so boasts an extensive network of ski courses ranging from downhill to cross-country to skimobile paths. Most of the slopes cater mainly to beginners and average skiers meaning that more advanced or expert skiers might find the slopes unchallenging. There are several top rated ski schools and all of the instructors speak English. Furthermore, the city has terrific night skiing. However, even if you are not big on skiing or winter sports, the city of Borovets offers fantastic night shows and a night life that attracts people from neighbouring cities. There are also several luxury hotels in Borovets that cater to every whim and indulgence you can imagine. For those who are more interested in taking in the sights, you can always use Borovets as your base while visiting the area’s nearby attractions. Hence it comes as no surprise that most people who visit the city are keen on returning every year. So far Borovets has managed to escape the construction frenzy that has hit other Bulgarian ski resorts, however, investor interest is growing daily. There are already several off-plan developments in the works and more second home buyers are considering the merits of investing in this charming place. One of the biggest advantages that Borovets offers investors is the fact that it is easily reachable from Sofia International airport. It is only 72 km away over good quality road. There is also regular bus transport for those who do not wish to bother with a car rental. Borovets also has plenty of job opportunities available in the hospitality sector. So, those who are looking to relocate for a bit of adventure or just a change of pace can certainly find work in the resort town. However, if you are uninterested in working in tourism then there are not very many work openings for you yet. The Bulgarian property market is growing fast and is quickly taking its place as the next “Spain”, so investors looking to get in on the ground floor of what is sure to prove a lucrative real estate market would be wise to look towards Borovets as an investment.
