St Vlas city guide

Europe property market - Bulgaria
The beautiful town of St-Vlas in Bulgaria is situated right on the beach on the shores of the Stara Planina Mountain range. The original village was founded by the Thracians in the 2nd century BC but had the name of Larisa. The city today is known for its mild climate combining sea and mountain atmospheres into one fresh and unique experience.

The town was only renamed in the 14th century to St-Vlas, who is the protector of merchants and peasants. As the town is also home to no less than 4 monasteries, it is also sometimes known as “the monastery”.

Today St-Vlas is an idyllic coastal village boasting brand new hotels and top-notch tourist infrastructure. Given its ideal placement between the Stara Planina mountain range it can never become overdeveloped, which has made St-Vlas the spot of choice for families and those looking for a quieter and more relaxed holiday.

In fact, as St-Vlas is only a mere 4km away from the bigger and flashier resort town of Sunny Beach it has all of the amenities of a big sea resort, but without the tourist trappings that are commonly associated with such places.

Currently there is a brand new yacht club being developed. The plans for the club encompass the existing water base of the local fishermen, which will give the new structure plenty of charm but will also make it viable as both a commercial and private docking station.

St-Vlas’ private enterprise structure is currently in full swing. People who are looking to spend some time in the city can easily find work either in the tourist and hospitality sectors or by setting up a business of their own.

There is plenty to do in the city for tourists and citizens alike. St-Vlas is close to number of different historical sites and can be used as a base for visiting different parts of the country. If you are planning on an extended stay in the city then be sure to have adequate health insurance to cover the cost of emergency, or even routine, medical care.

Buying property in St-Vlas can be rather pricy when compared to the prices of real estate in more rural parts of the country. However, the value of your investment is likely to appreciate far more in such a beautiful and highly coveted region then elsewhere. Right now the price of purchasing property in St-Vlas is still not as expensive as it is in Bulgaria's other seaside resorts, but as awareness of the town continues to grow and as bigger construction projects are completed good deals will be increasingly hard to find.

Overall, St-Vlas is a great place for purchasing a second or holiday home as it is a magnificent place for vacationing and will always be easy to rent out when you are away – making it an investment that will pay for itself quite quickly.
