Germany is a beautiful country with much history and much scenic beauty. The cobbled streets and splendid architecture of some of the country’s smaller towns and cities are a picturesque reminder of how life used to be in many European countries in a time not so long ago. However, high unemployment figures and a curious propensity to shy away from home ownership has left the Germany property market on very shaky legs. The Germany property market has been stalled for the last several years. Although there has been some growth in the past one-and-a-half years the property prices in the country are still rather low compared with the rest of Europe and most of the interest being shown in the real estate industry has come for foreign investors. In fact, several billions in Euros have been invested in the Germany property market over the last few years in the residential, commercial and retail sectors in order to stimulate the market, but it has not done much to fuel local interest. What has happened is that there is now a glut of unused retail and commercial space available which is simply losing money with each month that goes by. Such prospects are not encouraging for investors looking for a sure-fire investment. The rental market in Germany is as low as the Germany property market. Rents have remained very low which leaves a lot of room for investors to raise them making the potential return on investments in the rental market extremely high. Germans currently have the lowest percentage of home ownership in Europe. This is partly due to the very high rate of unemployment which leaves ordinary citizen with little or no savings with which to buy a home. So, investors who were thinking of maybe investing in the residential sector of the Germany property market might want to rethink their plan. They would most likely find themselves with a surplus of residential properties that they probably would not even be able to give away. The outlook for the Germany property market remains to be seen. Analysts are divided over the country’s real estate future. Some believe that the Germany property market has a very positive long term future, while others tend to take a wait and see approach. They want to wait and see how the current boom in the European property market will affect the Germany property market in the long run.
