The UK offers favourable locations for both business and leisure use. Property investment has long been viewed as a fundamental part of a diverse investment portfolio. There is no scarcity of attractive opportunities available for some of the best investment returns and securing these competitive opportunities seems to attract a large number of investors to the UK.

The UK is renowned for its rich history and culture. Attendance at many cultural events has remained relatively stable in recent years with nearly two thirds of people aged 15 and over attending a cultural event such as a play, ballet, opera or visiting an art gallery. The United Kingdom has a long tradition of civic culture with high levels of social trust, political and civic participation.

Since the end of World War II, the UK has followed the trend among all major economies away from industrial production towards service industries, which now account for three quarters of national income.

The UK services industry provides a tenth of the UK's gross domestic product, & employs 1.4 million people. The UK construction industry is one of the strongest in the world, with output ranked in the global top ten. The UK's external economic relations are now dominated by the EU (which accounts for 70 per cent of all UK trade), although there are other important trade links with the USA, the Far East and with members of The Commonwealth.

Europe dominates the economic agenda and the overriding issue facing present and future governments is the extent to which they are willing to integrate into the European economy.

Although the economy met the necessary criteria, the Government chose not to join up when the currency was introduced in 1999. The Government has since remained firmly on the fence; while many political and business leaders favour membership, there is huge opposition in the country at large. The conclusion of the debate may be decisive to Britain's economic future.
