New Zealand tops Brit emigration preference

In terms of buying a property in Europe, either to live or as a holiday home, the clear preference for those under 35 was Spain where as the over 45s would choose France.

There was a straight split between France and Spain for the 35-35 age group.

When it comes to where people would most like to live in Europe, the clear preference for those aged under 35 was Spain, whilst those aged over 45 preferred France. For those aged between 35 and 45, there was a direct split between France and Spain.

And, the survey showed that almost half or correspondents were serious about moving – 49% of people aged between 45 and 54 have seriously considered either moving abroad or buying a home abroad, as have 45% of 25 to 44 year olds and 55 to 65 year olds.

Tony Wilcox, managing director at Bank of Scotland International, said:” Many people are of the opinion that it is only the older generation that considers moving abroad or buying property abroad.

"However, younger people are also interested in opportunities overseas, especially within Australia."
