According to the international leisure firm First Choice, the market for ski holidays is currently growing at between one per cent and three per cent each year.

In addition, the company also reported that demand for skiing holidays is no longer focused predominantly around the Christmas period, but rather is becoming a more constant, year round market, thereby benefiting overseas property investors.

Commenting on the state of the European ski holiday market, a spokesman for First Choice said: "France is still very popular with guests who are very keen skiers and boarders, Austria has great skiing combined with traditional hotels and Lapland is a strong contender now as it offers a wide variety of activities away from the slopes to offer a truly all-round holiday experience."

Over recent years, less traditional skiing destinations, including Bulgaria and Slovenia have grown in popularity, prompting British investors to purchase holiday rental accommodation to take advantage of the demand.
